Today I am sharing the cards from my first Facebook Live @stampingave. Every Thursday at 10am I am planning to go live so please join me. A copy will be available on my YouTube channel, Autumn Wiste, StampingAVE. Click here to watch now!
I love fun folds and the locking gate fold is just that! This card is a step up from the traditional gate fold. To create this card you'll need the following supplies:
- Base layer cardstock - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" then score on the 8-1/2 side at 2-1/8" and 6-3/8".
- DSP - 3 pieces cut 1" x 3" all the same or all different
- Layers - 3 pieces of cardstock cut 1-1/4" x 3-1/4"
- Inside layer (optional) - 4" x 5-1/4"

Abstract Beauty DSP is a fun specialty paper with gold foil inlaid. The 4x6" paper will cut 8 pieces from each sheet (with the above dimensions).
The DSP is layered onto Crushed Curry and attached to the gate front with dimensionals. The top and bottom pieces are attached to the left gate flap, while the middle is attached on the right gate flap.
Stamping, while optional, should be done before adding the DSP to the flaps. I admit that I quickly added a few hearts AFTER and held my breath the entire time because I would hate to screw up. Thankfully there were no mishaps!
Last, to bring out the gold from the DSP, the metallic pearls were the perfect finishing touch.
I brought those darling hearts to the inside with my sentiment from Rainbow of Happiness.

My inspiration for this fun fold came from a team meeting back in January. There were so many great ideas to help jump start my creativity. I was thrilled to be at an in person event with such a talented group of stampers. There were two Stampin' Up! employees that joined the event via zoom. Their training and tips were uplifting, especially Brian Pilling who talked about connection during the Covid Pandemic.
I was also inspired by Pinterest and when I saw Heidi Collins cards using the Locking Gate Fold, I just had to try her ideas. The first is a baby card using Turtle Friends stamp set and Rainbows & Sunshine DSP. What I really liked about Heidi's cards is the extra layer of DSP on each flap. Those dimensions are 2-1/8x5-1/4".
Another inspiration used Simply Elegant DSP. This card I copied EXACTLY! It is so gorgeous using the specialty DSP. The sentiment is stamped and embossed in Silver using the Peaceful Moments stamp set.
You may have already noticed that the locking pieces on my original card are slightly smaller than the other two samples. Just increase DSP and layer dimensions by a 1/4" all around to get the larger flap pieces.
Happy Stamping,
Autumn
